SSERiga Student Association is committed to protecting your privacy. We will only use the information that we collect about you lawfully (in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 and 2018 GDPR).

1. What information do we collect

We may collect the following information:

Photos and images Photos from events, date when the photos were taken
Video data from events Video recordings of events, clips, promotional videos, recording date
Consent information Data Subject consent, by topic, date, time and source of consent


This information is acquired in the following ways: 

  • Received directly from the administration of SSE Riga could be basic information about students. It is usually gathered during the enrolment process, and is later shared with the Association for work purposes. The University is responsible for data being correct, updated, and securely stored.   • Information regarding participation in events and involvement in SA’s activities is gathered by surveys and sign-up sheets. The information is deleted after the event as soon as it is not needed anymore.
  • Photographs and video recordings are taken by PR committee associates or, in special cases, by professional photographers. They might be used for marketing and promotional purposes. By attending our events, you indicate your consent to our privacy policy. However, any student can ask that pictures of them be deleted or not shared, at any time before, during or after the event.

2. How we use the information

Our internal procedures cover the storage, access and disclosure of your information to board members. We do not disclose sensitive information about our students to third parties.

We may also use aggregate information and statistics for purposes of monitoring website usage, in order to help us develop the website and our services. These statistics will not include information that can be used to identify any individual.

We will take all the necessary steps to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy.

By submitting your information to the University and signing the SA’s membership agreement, you agree for it to be used as set out in this policy. Should the current privacy policy change, we will post the changes on this page, so that you can be aware of the information we collect and how we use it at all times. Students’ consent to the use of their information in the updated manner will be asked via email. Continued use of the service and prolonged membership in the Student Association will signify that you agree to such changes.

5. Marketing Permissions

When attending events organised by the Student Association, our photographers might take pictures of you. These might be stored and shared for marketing and promotion purposes. However, we are always open to requests from students in case they don’t want that photos of them be made public for any reason. If you wish your picture to be deleted from the webpage, the Facebook group, or Instagram account, please contact the PR Committee Chairperson.

6. Changes to this Policy

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy as we may consider necessary from time to time or as may be required by law. Any changes will be immediately posted on the website. We assume that you have accepted the terms of the Policy on your first use of the website following the alterations.

7. Cookies

The only type of cookies that we use are the ones that are set by WordPress and can only be read by the site itself. These cookies are essential for the site to operate. If you continue to use our site, we assume that you agree to our use of cookies.

Each cookie contains a unique reference number only (no personal information), which is used to confirm your authorisation to update your details. In our case, we use cookies to link to your FB account and show you the Association’s FB events on the right side on our homepage.  

8. Security

Whilst we will do our best to protect your information, we cannot ensure full security of your data which is provided by the University, because transmission of information via the internet is not completely secure. Nevertheless, once we have received your information, we will use strict procedures and security features to prevent unauthorised access.
